Fairy Garden Drawers

What do you do with drawers you've picked up from the
side of the road for FREE?

Make a Fairy Garden!

This is another project that has been in the making for a couple of years. I knew I wanted to make one and where I wanted to put it.
But there was a big obstacle in the way.

It leaked out that I wanted to make a Fairy Garden and before I knew it at every occasion I was receiving Fairy goodies. I had planned on making most if not all of the decor, but plans do change and before I knew it I had a pile of Fairy Garden Goodies!

Once that obstacle was removed I painted the cement
the same color scheme as the deck so it would
flow together as best as possible.

Next was to actually start the Fairy Garden!
The fronts of the drawers were already black which is what I wanted. You can't see it in the photos but the sides are painted a light purple.

I planned on writing a saying on them and came up with
"Leave room in the Garden for the Fairies to Dance" ~ of course.
I also drew dancing Fairies here and there.

Next I drilled holes in the bottoms for drainage.  I added coffee filters so the soil wouldn't drain/fall out through the holes.

I stacked them the way I wanted, placing a piece of styrofoam in the back of the bottom one where the top one sits. No use in wasting soil where there won't be any plants plus it also helped to provide stability for the top one to sit on.

I poked a few holes in some plastic I had and placed that over the coffee filters to help hold in some moisture during our 106+ temps. During those days I rarely get out to water so this made sense to me.

I had a bit of Miracle Grow on hand so I tossed that in

When that was gone I added some Potting Soil

and sand that I had on hand.

I mixed then up right in the drawers.

Next was the fun part of figuring out where to put ALL the goodies!

Done? Just about ~

I still find myself tweeking it here and there every so often

The plants have grown twice their size since these photos

Things are coming along as I saw it in my minds eye
as the Fairy Garden takes it rightfully place.

* ~ * TIP * ~ *

To help the smaller items stand up properly
glue a nail to their bottom

When dry, insert where you want them.
They will stay put and not fall over!

Here's your weekly Rock Message

    Your Kindness Rock Card Pull

You may find some inner wisdom in today's message that you didn't even know you needed.

Courage typically resides deep within each of us
and only surfaces when we are brave
enough to call upon it.
Often, this happens when we need healing of some sort. We may not even realize that it is healing that we are seeking, but rather we recognize that we must
take some sort of action to stand up for what we believe, or to defend ourselves or to simply feel better than we do right now...
and so we dig,
and some of us need to dig a bit deeper than others,
to summon the courage
to begin to heal whatever wounds we have.
These wounds could sound like...
"I am not good enough"
"I am not qualified"
"why would anyone listen to me"
"I have failed"
"I am sad"
"I am misunderstood"
And so this courage begins with a journey
of self love!
Be brave and courageous and find that voice that screams "I matter!"
because YOU do matter, and this world needs YOU to believe in yourself.
Once you find your voice, you will then be called to help others find theirs.

Sincerely,

The Kindness Rocks Project

Rock Painting

Rock Painting is fun.
The actual painting is fun.
Hiding the rocks are fun.
Imagining people finding them is fun.
Hoping to see a photo of your rock on Facebook is fun.
Bringing joy to someone who may need it is rewarding.

Deck Makeover ~ Mermaid Style?

I did it again,
yep ~ started too many projects at once

why? who knows
I have so many ideas swirling around in my head
for the backyard.

I think "oh I can get that done in X days",
only not to be able to
 due to real life interruptions.
Or my body ''screaming not today sister!''
So I move on to less taxing projects........

Here we go, the first in a series of fun updates,
decorations, and odds and ends of surprises!

The Deck was first

I started this early last Fall
and am happy to say I did finish it before winter!

I was so tired of looking at my old stained,
worn 24 yr. old BROWN deck.

At the time everyone was talking Unicorns....they still are.

I lean toward more pastel colors...like Mermaids.
Yes, that would be it.
My own Mermaid colored ocean right out my back door.

Can you tell I haven't been to the beach for a while
and definitely need my FIX!

Anything to get some "ocean breeze"
and cover that has-been deck.

Being the frugal person I am,
I gathered all the leftover paint from other projects,
yard sales, left from moving neighbors,
hand-me-downs, etc. - even some old craft paint.

Some I mixed to make the "mermaid" colors I wanted,
some I didn't have to.

I did a section at a time.
Painted on a couple of colors on a few boards,
then went over the same boards with just a squiggle of a different color.
I then dipped a clean brush into a pail of water and
used it to blend all the colors together.
This kind of thinned the paint so you could
see the grain of the wood in some spots.
Cool!

I alternated the base colors and top colors throughout.
Sometimes I squirted just the craft paint hear and there
and used the "water brush'' to blend.

I wish I could have done larger sections at a time,
but fit in when time and body allowed. LOL

I am in love with how it turned out!

Mama Kitty photo bomb.
RIP Mama

For not knowing what I was doing,
I have to say it turned out pretty darn good!
I love the way it coordinates with

Best of all ~
cost $0.00
and cleared out lots of paint cans!

Update
