Red Barns

I don't know if it is because I was raised on a farm  but I have a thing for barns. Yes, I admit it, I love barns! My Grandparents had a huge barn since they were in the dairy business. Our barn was smaller. Dad was a carpenter by trade and farmer by hobby. Not sure that hobby is the exact word I should use. He worked during the day and farmed at night and on weekends. It was an all consuming ''hobby''. We had beef cattle, so our freezers were always full of meat. Not only beef but lamb, chicken, rabbit, duck and sometimes pork. He also had a huge vegetable garden that fed they whole family, even after we were grown and had our own families.  There was a write up in the paper when their postman retired When asked what he thought he would miss the most, he said "The fresh vegetables from Andy Avila"! LOL
Maybe that's why I share my veggies and fruit from my garden with my mail lady. It's tradition ;)
But I digress, I love barns
So here are a few I've photographed along our back country roads where I live now.

This one reminds me of our barn, even though ours was never red.

Ok I have to throw a gratuitous shot of my fave cows
 I pass all the time.

They're usually standing in this corner very content to be chewing on the iron fence (they get minerals from it).
They're my ''Happy Cows :)

Purex Bright Washes Bright Wishes and a Giveaway!

Purex  is teaming up with the Make a Wish Foundation to bring bright wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. If you're not familiar with Make a Wish, they are one of the world's leading children's charities, serving children in every community in the United States and its territories. With the help of it's generous donors and more than 25,000 volunteers, Make a-Wish grants a wish somewhere in the country every 38 minutes. That's a lot of wishes for ill children. These wishes enrich the human spirit with hope, strength and joy.  The kids say they get renewed strength to fight their illnesses and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family.

I can attest to this personally. My great nephew has a rare blood disease. His wish was to go to Disneyland which was granted last year. My niece, his Mom, said it gave him and the entire family the much needed boost in their morale giving them renewed oomph to get back ''in the fight''. During those inevitable low moments, they pull out their multitude of photos and reminisce about the great time they had as a family, which brings his spirit back up to a more positive note.

Purex. will pay a minimum guarantee of $250,000 to Make-A-Wish, but you can help make a difference and get the payment up to $400,000 by purchasing Purex liquid detergent or liquid fabric softener between February 1st 2014 and February 28th 2014.

How you say?
Purex  will pay $.05 per bottle to Make a-Wish for the first 4 million bottles of 75oz+ liquid detergent sold from February 1 -February 28, 2014 and will increase the payment to $.10 for every bottle above 4 million, with the minimum guarantee of $2000,000 up to a maximum of $3000,000.

Purex  will also pay $.08 per bottle to  Make a-Wish for the first 620,000 bottles Classic and Ultra Lines in Mountain Breeze and Sweet Lavender fabric softeners sold from February 1 - February 28,2014, and will increase the payment to $.10 for every bottle above 620,000 up to a maximum of $100,000.
This is a great opportunity to help such a worthy cause where the average cost of a wish is $8,200.00 and
more than 14,000 wishes were granted in 2013 alone.

To help you get started Purex has given me 2 coupons for FREE bottles of Purex Mountain Breeze Detergent .

Now for the giveaway!
There will be 2 lucky winners!

 a Rafflecopter giveaway

Good Luck!

Where Have All the Flowers Gone?

We have been having the craziest weather ever.
It get so cold at night, down to 20's - 30's.
We awake to a hard frost every morning.
Now, that's the only normal part.
It then gets up to the high '60's - '70's during the day!
We have yet to have ANY rain!
The Governor has declared a drought.
We have yet been told what that entails.
Everything is suffering.
I've lost several plants, even established ones.
See that brown shrub on the right in the picture below?
It's Lemon balm and about 5 years old. I'm hoping it will shoot up from the bottom come Spring.
The frost sucks the life right out of the dehydrated plants.
Wilted and burnt they lay along the ground.

I know this is a anything Floral party,
don't worry I won't disappoint ;)

Check out my Orchid. It has buds on it!!
This is the first time I haven't killed an Orchid, and believe me I have received so many as gifts.
I always feel so bad when they die.
BUT I have figured out the secret... ignore it!
It has new growth along the old stems along with more buds.
It even has new leaves!
I usually forget to water it and even forget I have it sometimes.
My faux Freesia kind of hides it ;)
This is what it looked like when my kids first gave it to me...
and soon will be blooming again, fingers crossed.

Since this is about the only flower I have in all my gardens
The flowers are my dishes will have to do.
I love this Rose table my daughter gave me.
A few gorgeous floral images to share.
