Peace in the Garden

From through the windows I hear a gentle coo coo o o.
It draws me to the backyard.
I am excited to see a pair of Ringneck Doves (I think).
They look just like the ones my Dad raised.

I have heard them for the last few weeks but had yet to see them.
I'm pretty sure they have a nest in the Honeysuckle over the Gazebo
I'm so happy to awake every morning to their melodious call.

I then realize I am smelling an intoxicating scent.
But where is it coming from?

The Lemon Tree?

Even though it is in full bloom,
it's too small to emit a fragrance like this.

There are so many plants in bloom it's hard to distinguish
exactly which one I am smelling.
It smells so familiar yet I can't seem to place it.
While walking around I walk right past it.

OMG! It is my Mock Orange (Pittosporum tobira ''Variegata')
The scent is intoxicating.

The Bees think so too,

Even more of the buds have opened

it's sweetness wafts through my open windows and calms me.
In fact, as I write this I am delighted by it's fragrance.
Even though it's on the other side of the garden it still encompasses me.
Maybe it's the drizzle we are receiving that's helping it touch me,
whatever the reason,
 I am thankful.

The sights and sounds of Springtime in my little peace of Heaven.

  1. I can only imagine the fragrance of your Mock Orange, having never seen a Pittosporum in reality. We also have a plant here that is commonly called Mock Orange. It's the Murraya, and the fragrance from that is intoxicating. They are probably similar. Love the little doves too. I find a Dove's call very calming.

  4. I adore the scent of mock orange as well. Sweet and heady and so romantic, I think. Can't wait for my little bush to flower, hopefully it won't be much longer now before we get some much needed warmth and sunshine.

  8. It's that time of year when so many fragrant plants beging to bless us. We call Philadelphus 'Mock Orange.' I can't remember that I've ever seen Pittosporum in bloom here where it is grown for the foliage.
