Butterflies are Free......

I'm linking to Tootsie Time for Fertilizer Friday, Thanks Tootsie!

We finally made it to one special spot in Pacific Grove, CA.
Every time my friend visits, we would try to get there
but we would run out of time or something always same up.
Why you say would we want to go to this little town near Monterey?

Well, because it is know as
Butterfly Town USA!
And my friend LOVES Butterflies. Me too!

This seaside community is an overwintering haven
for thousands of Monarch Butterflies.
Each year in November, they return from the north
to the special protective microclimate
of the Eucalyptus Trees and Monterey Pines
at The Monarch Grove Santuary.

The Monarchs hang in large clumps from the branches of the trees.

On mild days when the sun shines through the trees, the Butterflies
warm up enough to flutter and flit about performing entertaining
aerial acrobatics.

They stay until February, the largest clusters are seen mid-December.
We visited at the end of their overwintering season
but were lucky enough to see some.

The Monarchs aren't the only thing that are gorgeous,
the grounds are too.

There are several places to stop and sit.

Benches with remembrances....

sweet and...

funny sayings.

But this one was the best!

We were also lucky enough to see some of the other
residents of the Sanctuary.....

So cute!

I hope you're not getting bored...
we have a couple more stops before we're done!

  1. What a beautiful place...LOVE that AWESOME butterfly bench!

  2. How fun...I will have to take the kids there to see the butterflies...thanks

  3. Everything here is just beautiful!! Love the Monarchs!!

  4. What a wonderful place to visit! Close to Atlanta is a place called Calloway Gardens and they have this super huge dome with plants on the inside. That is their butterfly garden area, and you see so many different species. Although what you saw is nature providing it free!

  5. The butterflies are so pretty and I definitely like the butterfly bench. Thank you for sharing your trip with us. I really appreciate it.

  6. Such a lovely place! The benches tell their own tales.

  7. What a neat place. I'd love to be able to see all the Monarchs.

  8. How lucky to visit a Monarch sanctuary!! Thanks so for sharing.

  9. Boring is one thing is was not! Very interesting and you got great pictures. What a fun place to visit. I'll bet you're glad you finally made it there.

  10. What a wonderful post!! How could anyone get bored. Loved the John Denver bench : ) thanks for visiting Just B : )

  11. That looks like a very relaxing place, just what I would need after a day of shopping at the fruit store.

And one could never get bored with the other residents, they are such dears...

  12. what a fantastic post on a neat place. a few years back the butterfly population was huge here...the monarchs were doing a migration or something and there were thousands of them here! It was very neat to see...
thanks for linking in today...have a wonderful weekend...oh...and don't forget to stop by this week...starting right now to enter and learn about the great give away that is being held on my blog this week! I know you will love the prize!

  13. I've heard of this place but never had the opportunity to visit. Thanks so much for sharing these wonderful butterfly views (and benches too). I've been having trouble visiting because Mozilla keeps crashing (It seems I have a faulty WLAN card) ... but I'm doing what I can this morning catching up in my reader before clicking over to comment. I'm glad I didn't miss this post ;-)
    Hugs and blessings,

I'd love for you to leave me a comment. Helps me to know I'm not totally crazy...like my family thinks I am!
