Holiday Boot Decoration

Hey, remember these cute little boots

I found during this Treasure Hunt?

They have been turned into Holiday Door Greeters!

One, sports a bundle of Holiday Berries,

stained Cheesecloth Bow, Jingle Bells,

and a dusting of Snow (Mica Flakes) 

It can be hung,

But also can stand on it's own

The other dons Poinsettias with a small Nutcracker.

A red velvet bow adds punch.

Fertilizer Friday! 12/04/09

Geesh, I've been so busy I've missed the last two Fertilizer Firdays!

Tis the season for a hustling and a bustling!

But I'm here today :~)

Aren't ya glad? LOL

I wandered about my yards and did find a few blooms on  plants that just won't give in the winter.

Feverfew reseeds itself pretty freely. One year my garden was covered with it. I since keep it in check. But love to see where it pops up at.

Alysium is the same way. Love the purple!

My little Lemon is full of buds.

Hoping it is able to keep them so I get a first Lemon this year.

Calendula dosen't mind the cold, very hardy.

A Wild Rose keeps on keeping on...

And last but not least a perfect bud.

I opened the box to see all different colors of tissue paper and the cutest card.

 It was like having an early Christmas because each goodie was indivually wrapped.

Such fun to unwrap, unwrap, and unwrap!

Operation Raccoon

First off I'm hoping you all had a wonderful and memorable Thanksgiving. We went to my Sister and Brother-in-laws's home and enjoyed traditonal faire with all the trimmings.  We all ate too much but worked it off when the 2 little ones (nephew 4, cousin 6) forgot to close the door after picking eggs. Yup, we got to chase chickens! Altho at the time we didn't think so, it did make some wonderful funny memories.

Didn't catch pictures while the chase was on but she sure has a variety of unusual but gorgeous Chickens!

Let me say among all of the things that I am truly grateful for, YOU are high on the list.

This time of year we all are doing our crafting.

My kitchen table is where I do my crafting.
Maybe someday I'll have a corner where I can leave things that are
in the process". But for now I shuttle my supplies back and forth
here and there.
I'm always in a hurry to finish a project so I can "clear the table".
Sometimes I don't think I even get to enjoy the process.
I usually throw my supplies back in their containers.
Organization is not my friend when it comes to this.
The other day after finishing my Gift Jars this is what my ribbon/trim bin looked like: What a mess!! It's pretty much been like this for awhile.

I decided it was time to got through and wrap them up.
It took about 2 hours but I did it!!

Much better ~:)
I know it doesn't seem like much, but what a difference when I'm looking for just the right trim.

Update on Cyndar

I was able to get Cyndar into our vet on Wednesday.

She was a mess....so many Raccoon bites.

She had a slightly elevated temperature.

They shaved the larger bites along her back, inner front leg and inner thigh.

After seeing how bad they were she decided that Cyndar needed drainage tubes. They put her to sleep, checked to see how deep the bites were, then opened up the larger ones to insert drains. The bites along her back and front leg were 1" deep, the one on her back leg was 2" deep! We were at the Vets for 3 hours.

I was given some antibiotics for her to take, 4 twice a day. She also is on Rymadil for pain. I put warm compresses on the bites with drains twice a day and Neosporin on the ones that don't.

She gets the drains out on Monday.

She's still sore and tender but doing better each day.

Operation Raccoon

has begun.

I ran fishing line all around the pond as best as I could.

Installed the Scarecrow Motion activated Sprinkler,

tied down the dog food lids, and removed ALL the large rocks from around the inner shelf of the pond. I am waiting for the Coyote Urine, once that arrives it goes around the pond also.

I'm trying any and all tips/tricks to send the Coons packing.

No holds barred!

Racoon Update

I don't remember taking reservations for two??

These were taken two nights ago. They were cute, amusing and fun to watch.

They are not so cute and amusing anymore!

Cyndar, our Great Dane, started barking about 5 this morning. Everyone was still sleeping. The Raccoons were on our deck. I thought if I opened the sliding door they would run away and she woudl stop barking. Well, they didn't, Cyndar bolted by me and got into a fight with one. The other ran away. OMG!! The screaming! From Cyndar!! At first she had the Coon down then it jumped onto her back. It hung onto her as she ran around the yard about 3 times. She then headed for the deck where I grabbed the can's lid & hit the Coon with it. It finally let her go. She is all bit up and I have an appointment in about 20 mins with our vet. She is current on all shots but want her checked out.

 This weekend will commence Operation Raccoon.

Eliminating all food sources and whatever else I can think of!!

Here is a turkey recipe that also includes the use of popcorn as a stuffing -- imagine that. When I found this recipe, I thought it was perfect for people like me, who just are not sure how to tell when poultry is thoroughly cooked, but not dried out. Give this a try.

8 - 15 lb. turkey

1 cup melted butter

1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is Good.)

1 cup uncooked popcorn (ORVILLE REDENBACHER'S LOW FAT)

Salt/pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush turkey well with melted butter salt, and pepper. Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn. Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the oven.

Listen for the popping sounds. When the turkey's ass blows the oven door open and the bird flies across the room, it's done.

And, you thought I didn't cook...

TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING,

BUT I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP.

I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS,

THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED -

BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION

WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT.

TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION,

THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION.

SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR,

AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.

GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,

PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES.

I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,

'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.

I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY,

WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.

BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES....

HAPPY EATING TO ALL - PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.

MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY,

MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.

MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP.

MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS.

MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE,

MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!!

Gift Jar Recipe

This is a great recipe for a Gift Jar.
Not a cake or cookies or soup, but Cinnamon Pancakes.

 They are yummy too.
Great for little Thank You or Thinking of You Gifts.
My neighbors love these.

Cinnamon Pancake Mix

3 cups all-purpose Flour

3 Tablespoons Sugar

2 Tablespoons Baking Powder

4  1/2 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon

1  1/4 teaspoons Salt

Combine all ingredients and place in quart jar.

Attach this to the jar:

In medium bowl, combine 3/4 cup milk, 1 Egg, and 2 Tablespoons Oil. With fork, blend in 1 1/3 cups Pancake mix until moistened but still lumpy. Cook on lightly greased griddle or skillet.

Makes about 10 5" Pancakes

Well, they came in handy after all ;~)

So gather your supplies

I printed out the instructions and tags

 

just place the instructions on top of the lid

You can use fabric, doilies, etc. to decorate the top of the jar

I pick up doilies and the like when I see them at yard sales.

They come in handy and have so many uses besides their intened one.

Just happened I had 3 of these red ones.

Placed the doily on top, wove ribbon around outer edge...

And voila!

Don't forget to add a tag

This year because I had all those Pancake Molds I was able to add one to each jar. You could also add a wooden spoon, spatula, or another related gadget.

You could also use stained cheescloth to cover the lids

like I did on these Jam and Jelly Jars

These really make great thoughtful, homemade, and inexpensive gifts.

I found Formica samples in my Treasure Pile and had a thought...I know dangerous!

It went from this to this...

Yep, a Christmas Ornament!

Here is what I did....

Brushed on Mod Podge to the sample,

added some paper for the background

Found an image I liked and printed then cut it out.

Glued it on, embellished with vintage lace, ribbon, trims, stones, etc.

I also had smaller ones I decorated and embellished. 

Love how they turned out!! Some are for sale on Ebay and Etsy.
