House Beautiful Comparison

Miriam Schulman of Schulman Art
pinned an inspiring post which shows
you how to "get the look" for less when
Decorating for a Dark, Moody and Sensual Bedroom.

"Moises Esquenazi designed a little L.A. House with a lot of California cool.
This bedroom was featured in House Beautiful (July 29, 2008).
You can mix high and low end design resources to
copy the look yourself for your own space."

Which she did by searching the depth of Esty's halls,
finding Treasures to suggest.

I was so excited to find she was kind enough to include my Foot Stool!

Thank you so much Miriam!

A Surprise!

Whew! Where have the weeks gone?
I know I'm a tired old record but geesh!
It's already the middle of the month!
Before another day passes and I miss the garden memes again,

I managed to "play" in the front yard for a bit over the weekend.
You know weeding, pruning, thinning...all that "fun" stuff.

But to my surprise I stumbled upon mt FIRST Pomegranate!!
I didn't even see the poor thing bloom!

It's not quite ripe yet...
just a bit longer.

I was also surprised at it's size.
Not bad for the very first one ever.

mmmm, I can't wait to taste it!

Don't you just love it when Mother Nature decorates for you?!

Wishing all a wonderful Fall weekend!
♥♥♥

Oh and for those of you who asked...

I made it through the Stress Test and Echo!
Don't want to do that treadmill anywhere in the near future....
NOT a fun time I tell ya!

Results next Tuesday...

Reality Tour

There was a health fair downtown last weekend which offered a
glimpse into the world of those suffering from dementia, as well as other health screenings.
The free fair was sponsored by the Newman Forum of SEAPA
(Stanislaus Elder Abuse Prevention Alliance)

The main feature, “Dementia Reality Tour”, was a 20-minute exercise
which simulates what life is like for somebody locked into the world of dementia.

Participants in the tour are asked to complete a series of basic household tasks while wearing goggles, headsets and cumbersome gloves which simulate dementia.

M, T and I went through it.

We were given large thick gloves to wear, along with blurry goggles which also had reinforcement circles in the center. Seeing wasn't easy.

We were also given to put inside our shoes pieces of plastic runner that you had to wear pointy sides up...yeow!
But with older people they often have neuropathy,
and this was to show what they may feel when they walk.

The headphones gave you directions for 3 tasks at a time,
but in between there were loud sirens,
children playing, adults talking,
people whispering, a phone ringing
and other distractions.
And they WERE distractions!

I finally finished putting on a shirt and buttoning it (which was no easy feat)
but forgot what the next task was.
When the phone rang in the headphones I stopped and looked for it!
I don't think I finished half of the tasks....let alone did many correct.

It was just so eye-opening,
and it reaffirmed a lot of things we had gone through with my parents.
It brought back to me a lot of things that we had lived.
I realized how difficult it was for my parents,
and how ignorant I was to what they was going through.

It is a must for us all, not matter what age.
If something like this comes to your town
and you are able to attend,
please do.
It will be the most insightful 20 mins of your life.

Questons You Just Can't Answer

Did you ever stop and wonder......

Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard when he lives in the jungle without a razor?

Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are flat?

Why do banks charge a fee on 'insufficient funds' when they know there is not enough?

Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?

Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?

Whose idea was it to put an 'S' in the word 'lisp'?

What is the speed of darkness?

Why is it that people say they 'slept like a baby' when babies wake up every two hours?

If the temperature is zero outside today and it's going to be twice as cold tomorrow, how cold will it be?

Do married people live longer than single ones or does it only seem longer?

How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?
Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, 'I think I'll squeeze these pink dangly things here, and drink whatever comes out?'

Who was the first person to say, 'See that chicken there... I'm gonna eat the next thing that comes outta it's bum.'

Why do toasters always have a setting so high that could burn the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat?

Why do people point to their wrist when asking for the time, but don't point to their bum when they ask where the bathroom is?

Why does your Gynaecologist leave the room when you get undressed if they are going to look up there anyway?

Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They're both dogs !

If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?

If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, then what is baby oil made from?

If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?

Why do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?

Stop singing and read on......

Do illiterate people get the full effect of Alphabet Soup?

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him on a car ride,
he sticks his head out the window?

Does pushing the elevator button more than once make it arrive faster?

My Kind of Treasure!

Finally I found a few sales that were at the right prices!
Seems like the prices have gone up at garage sales lately...
some are just ridiculous!

But check these finds out...

Each was 10 cents!
The last thing I need are ornaments, let alone 8 boxes of them.
But at that price I couldn't leave them there!
( I do have plans for them tho)
The Last Case Scenario is one of my daughter's favorite games.
When we saw this almost new sequel it was grabbed immediately.
The bingo game pieces are great for any kind of project.

Another sale had these for 50 cents each...a little much
but they screamed "Take me Take me"!
The small sifter will be made into a nest,
I can always use clothes pins, and the
honeycomb Pink Rose decoration by Hallmark was just too cute!
There is tinsel inside the garland box and
a "snow blanket" and vintage Angel Hair inside the bag.

The last sale we stopped at had some good finds too.
A pretty queen sheet and 2 like new just as pretty washcloths.
2 old children's books and and old ink bottle.
(I see projects in the near future for these)
Like new pair of socks for my daughter and....
a mix of plastic and glass crystals!
(These I'm collecting for a chandelier I will be revamping soon)
Each was 10 cents!

Gorgeous aren't they?!

And check these out!
I'm so stoked about these frames...yep 10 cents each.
Look at the size of the large round one! WOW!
Thinking about keeping it for myself.
One will be transformed into a Christmas gift...shh ;)
I can always use a foam wreath base and the Snowflakes...
I love Snowflakes as some of you know!

For a little over $5 I got a nice bundle of Treasure!

Yippee!!
