Keep Mosquitoes Away with this DIY Spray

Yes, I'm dating myself with this one!
Paul Harvey had a segment years ago, where he shared this spray recipe.
Over the years I think people have forgotten about it.
So here it a reminder with photos on how to make it.

Only 3 ingredients needed:
Big bottle of BLUE cheap Mouthwash
3 cups of Epsom Salts
3 stale 12 oz. cans of cheap beer

Mix all 3 ingredients together until salt is dissolved.

Bottle of mouthwash

Epsom salts

stale beer

FYI, start with a large pitcher.
I had to switch - it's a lot of liquid! LOL

Stir until salts are dissolved

Pour into a spray bottle.

Makes quite a lot.
Spray anywhere you sit or hangout outside, it won't harm plants or flowers.
I spray it on my window screen from the inside out
(so I don't get my windows dirty ;)
I spray the deck and walkways throughout the gardens.

It does make a huge difference.
Recently had the Little's here and spent a lot of time outside playing.
Happy to report no one received a bite.

  3. They love me too! It's crazy how this keeps them away.

I used to go out gardening with dryer sheets sticking out of very nook and cranny - to no avail!

This is cheap and makes a lot!
I spray the area I plan on gardening in, plants and all, what a relief!

  14. I just made my spray and wanted to know if it sometimes make a blue goo or something like a pulp if that make sense. I noticed it while stirring. But I was still able to use my spray and spray around the porch.

    1. Maybe it was the Epsom Salts you saw prior to them dissolving. Did it seem to thin out after a thorough mixing? I'm glad you were able to use it.

  17. I've gotten in the habit of spraying where I'm going to be or bring it along and spray where I am.

  18. Crazy question, how do you get your beer stale? Never had any long enough to get stale…shake it or open and leave it?

    1. Good question. I have never tried non-alcoholic beer, so not sure if it would work. If you do make with non-alcoholic beer, could you please let me know how it works? xx
