Another lazy gardener tip!
I have no room for a compost pile nor the energy to tend to it.
So this is my little hack.
I collect all fruit and vegetable peels along with trimmings, eggs shells, coffee grounds, tea bags, fruit or veggies past their prime, etc. They are added to a bowl I keep on my counter (I'm sure you could find something much prettier).
When I get a chance I bury them around my gardens.
Just dig a hole
The trimmings will decompose adding nutrients to your garden as well as feed your worms.
NOW come the SURPRISES!
You just never know what will pop up when composting this way.
This year I have these awesome volunteer plants!
Onions
Cantaloupe that is taking over
Full of blooms
With Cantaloupes almost ready to pick
This Cherry Tomato made it through 2 Winter so far!
And it's producing for the 3rd year!
I don't know how that is possible
but I have watched it very closely and it is the same plant.
So not only are you making your gardens healthier, reducing your waste, and feeding the worms, but you just may get some volunteer plants along the way.

ReplyDeleteThank you! It was delish btw ♥
DeleteWhat a great alternative to the "pile." Do you ever have trouble with pests digging up the buried "treats?"
ReplyDeleteSo far so good! 3 puppies and and older dog haven't dug them up yet. Been doing this for years and never had an issue. I try to bury at least a foot down them stomp, stomp, stomp, lol. If I have
Deletea lot, I make multiple holes, so it doesn't get overfilled. The 3 different breed puppies do try to dig to China, but never where there is "compost".
I love this idea! Filing it away to try next year.
ReplyDeleteThanks! So glad you found it useful ♥♥

DeleteMy compost heap has been lived in by critters that I am trying to trap and kill now! Love your hint!. I have had cukes, corn, and tomatoes grow in my pile. I cut down a gallon milk jug so I have a large opening and keep it on the side of my sink. Works well for me.
ReplyDeleteLove the gal. milk jug idea! Holds more too in case of a big meal prep!. Good luck with those critters! ♥
DeleteThank you for sharing this on Traffic Jam Weekend. It has been chosen as a fave feature for this week's link party that goes live on Thursday at 5:00 pm CST.
ReplyDeleteOMG! Thank you!!
DeleteHi, great photos of some wonderful blooms. Composting is a must---I stick the same bowl you have into a stoneware antique bowl and whala it's a decorative accent, only giveaway is the lid!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
