The Door Theory

The following write up explains so much.
"Ever walk into a room with some purpose in mind, only to completely forget what that purpose was? Turns out, doors themselves are to blame for these strange memory lapses.

Psychologists at the University of Notre Dame have discovered that passing through a doorway triggers what's known as an event boundary in the mind, separating one set of thoughts and memories from the next. Your brain files away the thoughts you had in the previous room and prepares a blank slate for the new locale."
It's not aging, it's the door!
Whew! Thank goodness for studies :)

What a great opportunity to get something GREAT for a SUPER DEAL!

An Early Christmas Gift

Christmas came early for me the other day.

I knew the kids had something up their sleeve but wasn't sure what it was.
The door bell rang and to my surprise my mail lady had a bog that said "Live Handle with Care".

I opened it up to find 3 Butterfly Koi inside!!
All three are different colors and have beautiful long fins ♥♥

As those of you who follow me know I've had "issues" with Raccoons. A a few years ago and again this year. They caught 2 of my Koi the first time and this year got my gorgeous white Butterfly Koi.
So I was especially excited to see a white one!

She even stuck around a bit in the shallow end while the other two headed for the depths.

So far the netting seems to be working. No Raccoon evidence in the pond, keeping fingers crossed.

Although something has ripped the winter plastic off one side of the Aviary. Thank goodness the wire is more mesh like and that the Parakeets roost up along the inside of the  wooden roof.

Anyway I want to thank M,T and C for my new babies!
I love you ♥♥♥

Simplify

Simplify and enjoy my family.
That is my plan for this years Christmas.

sim·pli·fy [sim-pluh-fahy]

verb (used with object), sim·pli·fied, sim·pli·fy·ing.
to make less complex or complicated; make plainer or easier
I'm not:
baking every Christmas Cookie I know while my family enjoys "each others" company,
using simple cheerful vignettes instead of going the whole nine yards,
a "snowy" Christmas Tree with select ornaments instead of every one we own,
planning fun new memories,
creating fun new traditions.
I am:
going to enjoy my children,
eliminating most of the outdoor Christmas lights,
have a more relaxed Holiday Season
and especially remember how blessed I am!
White and silver are the colors of our Tree this year.

Covered in white, silver

and crystal Snowflakes.

White birds and a pearl ornament I made this year

silver and white tinsel garland

crystal Candy Canes and Icicles

 crystal Baubles too.

A few vintage ornaments around the lace skirt

And topped with a crocheted Angel ♥

Holiday Flavors

Starbucks Peppermint Mocha has to be my all time
fav holiday luxury.
But in these frugal times I don't splurge on it very often.
I decided to try my hand at creating a similar flavor.
I already have my arsenal of knock offs.
In case you missed them here they are.
So here is what I came up with. Now it isn't exactly the same but in a pinch, it suits me fine :)
Peppermint Mocha
3/4 cup powdered coffee creamer
1/2 cup cocoa
3/4 cup confectioners sugar
1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
Mix well and store in an airtight container.
The amount you add to your cup of hot coffee depends on the size of your cup and how strong you like your flavoring. I normally use a larger 14 oz cup  and add 2-3 heaping teaspoonfuls, just to give you an idea.
