Garden Happenings

I'm joining:

Cottage Flora Thursdays over at Fishtail Cottage

Fertilizer Friday over at Tootsie Time

Cottage Garden Party over at Etsy Cottage Style

We have had such a heatwave lately.
I spend most of my time watering while trying not to use much water...
yeh, if you figure that one out let me know!

The fruits and veggies have, of course, loved the heat.

I picked some grapes and white nectarines yesterday.
They both are so yummy!

A few Hollyhocks are still trying to put out a few blooms

The strawberry pot I planted with succulent cuttings
last month looks like it took off.

The wild Roses are still blooming

as are the Carpet Roses

You can tell how hot it's been....
I have tons of weeds to pull,
tons of trimming to do...

you can't even see the gate for the Trumpet Vine and Clematis

Rose of Sharon has a bloom or two left

my Impatiens seem stunted...

Luckily most are well established and really don't require alot of water.

I only use soaker hoses and dripper irrigation to water minimizing evaporation.
ie. all the hoses you see ;)
This year I set up a multiple manifold at the faucet
that way I never have to move the hoses,
I can control which ones I want on at the faucet
by either opening or closing the valves.

Remember that lovely carpet of Baby Tears I showed you about a month ago?
Burnt to a crisp.
It will be back in the winter tho.

My little Pomegranate tree is growing steadily.

Only a wisp of a cold memory...
one Snowflake was forgotten and still hangs under the arbor...
in the center of the photo.

Most all in the front garden has crispy blooms.
This get the hottest Sun of the day
and is the newest garden.

The front of the hidden gate LOL

Be sure to pop over and see all the
wonderful gardens at the parties above!

  2. Impatiens like it cooler, don't they?

It is hot here but we are getting tons of rain so it works out okay for us...

  3. Hi Deb,

Your bowl of fruit looks scrumptious! Despite the heat your roses and hollyhocks look great. You have some wonderful garden decor. I bet the bench is a great place to sit and relax. I just noticed the white kitty on your sidebar smelling a flower - she is so adorable. Have a great day!

What a serene setting with the blue garden chairs beside the pond. I bet you enjoy many summer evenings out there.

  5. You picked grapes and nectarines?? I'm moving to Florida! They look like something from the produce department at the store...well duh, that is where we get most of our fruit...;-)
    I love your garden!!
I just signed on as a new follower!

  8. What a beautiful garden you have Deb!
Like you, my trumpet vine and clematis are hiding the gate to our fence. The poor mailman still gets through though!
I wish you a wonderful weekend!

  9. Wow...it has been hot here, but you must have a much longer growing season there. All I have is cucumbers and squash and a few tomatoes.

  11. You have a beautiful yard, and I know what you are going through with the watering. I go out and water early in the morning, every evening as shade sets in, plus run my underground sprinklers trying to keep up on the plants, flowers, and lawn. Trying to keep up isn't easy with it being so hot is it? I hope we and everyone else gets some relief before long.

  12. Oh Deb, I love your garden. I don't have much land
for planting so have to resort to pots, but still enjoy my patio garden. The back yard is a nice size but my son takes care of that, I don't have the time. My husband used to do so much yard work all over this property but now he is in a wheel chair, so sad. I had to post the pictures now or never, won't be able to do at any other time.

  13. How nice of you to stop by to see me and leave such a nice comment.

Your garden looks amazing! I had to laugh over your comment about watering without using much water, I am in the same situation. Most of my watering is done with microsprinkers, but I still have some Rainbirds. My goal is to gradually redesign these areas to eventually elimate them. Water has become such a precious and expensive resource!

  14. Hey Deb! I sure wish I was there to enjoy those refreshing grapes and nectarines with you in your lovely garden. Your holly hocks are gorgeous. Don't you just hate having to move garden hoses around? It makes it such a chore. I know your happy to have them stationary now.

Well since I can't be there, just keep enjoying it for the both of us.

    Hugs and love....T :)

P.S. Love the cheery new blog look!

  15. Hi Deb, Your grapes and nectarines look remarkable. How nice to be able to grow something so beautiful and delicious in your garden! I have perennial sweet peas in my garden which are blooming now - they've been blooming nonstop for over a month and are filled with blooms now. They have no scent. I suspect this is what you have in your garden. Aren't volunteer gifts fun? (Unless they're a WEED!) lol I have two volunteer heucheras - go figure.
    Blessings, Beth

  16. Deb, I love your very peaceful and restful garden. It is so amazing, I feel invited in to sit for a spell. But it might be a long walk from Oregon ya think???

  17. Hi Deb, wow, your garden looks great for having a drought. Great idea with the hose manifold, I'm going to look into that.

Stunning garden, always a pleasure to visit!

  18. Those grapes look wonderful! And very yummy nectarines too.Your arden looks like you really care for it. One way I save water - in my container garden is watering with the humidifier water - my house is in the woods and damp, so I have a bucket full about every 12 hours. I'm also getting a rain barrel for the downspout under the flat roof. My garden isn't a big as yours but I have a well, so I want to be careful of my water. Thanks for sharing your beautiful garden, Love, Linda

It does my heart good to tour around the gardens that are linked into my little party...I so wish every one of the people who share lived close enough that I could walk the gardens in person. Thank you so much for sharing with me this week...I hope you will again very soon!
Hugs and smiles from Alberta Canada to you!
