Fertilizer Friday ~ 9/17/10

Woo Hoo it's Friday!!
Check out Fertilizer Friday over at Tootsie Time!

I ordered 2 Hydrangeas and a Japanese Maple from eBay.

I got them potted up right away.

Both Hydrangeas are Nightingale and
are to be purple like these.

The Japanese Maple turned out to be a good size plant...
twice the size as advertised.

It is called Octopus.
It is a weeping variety with it's branches snaking down
and away from the trunk...like Octopus arms.
Here it is as an adult.

They are all said to be fast and hardy growers ☺

I had a light bulb go off the other day...
yes, it does happen....occasionally.

I am training vines over/around the gazebo.
There are 4 large openings.
one I want to keep as the entrance
then 'enclose' the other 3, making it more room-ish.

I was in the garage looking at my Treasure Pile
and saw 2 shuttered doors I had picked up in the spring
for $10 at a garage sale.

I had intended to use them in my living room makeover
(yes,I'm still plugging away at it)
but ended up not using them.

The new vines are growing, albeit slowly, and I had been trying to think of away to help them fill in sooner.

Light bulb!

I could attach the doors to the Gazebo frame.
I frantically hunted for those technical gardening accessories.....
Zip Ties.
Hauled out the doors and
Viola`!!

I love the way they look!,
like actually opening the doors into the garden.
They don't 'work' and even if they did they aren't wide enough,
but will certainly help with the morning sun while sipping our coffee.

I also came across 2 old windows I bought years ago...
for some 'future project'.
I think I'm going to try to hang them side by side on another side.
I can picture them surrounded by the vines but being able to see through them ☺☺☺

My Ivy Geranium is in it's glory.

I like the way the flowers fade to different shades of pink.

And then there's the wild Sunflowers.
I never planted these, I think the birds did.
They grow along side the roads here.

Enjoy your weekend,
hoping you get to spend it in the garden!

Cyndar Has Lost Her Mind......

Not that she had much in the first place!!
Just kidding...
But she can be one weird dog!

The other day while vacuuming I picked up a piece of bark that had "mysteriously" made it into the house,
possibly between someone's  some dog's toes :\

Anyway, I picked it up and set it on the table....
forgetting all about it,
yeh, your memory goes when you hit Menopause..
that's my story and I'm sticking to it....

(First let me apologize for the dark photos
and the long boring post...
actually this is the short version ;)
I didn't put in half the photos!!!
LOL)

Later that night Cyndar spotted it on the table.
Can see it near the zapper?

She approached from one side, sniffed
and when she exhaled it moved

She jumped back

approached again...

 getting closer...

checking from the other side..

let out a big exhale, it moved, she jumped back growling!

She got up the nerve to finally check it out again

same thing happened again

and again

and again

throughout most of "Lair Lair".

Good thing we've seen it before, otherwise
we would have missed most of it watching her.

She came over and said
"Mom, help!"

Hey, I can read her mind ;)

I picked it up and tried to give it to her.
I knew she wanted to chew on it...
but she backed away.

I placed it on my little stool

She gave a repeat performance....

it didn't move as much on the stool due to the fabric...

still not trusting it...

She checked it out from all sides...

then stared at it for about 30 minutes.

I finally picked it up and put it in her mouth
which made her a happy camper.

She spit it out when she was done playing with it..
this time I walked that scary thing to the trash!

A Couple Thrifty Finds

I'm joining Linda for Nifty Thrifty Tuesdays over at Coastal Charm.
Be sure to pop over and see what everyone has found!

I didn't get to any yard sales over the weekend,
but did make it to our favorite consignment store.

I picked up 2 really nice tablecloths ($5 each).

They both are a very nice weight and
decided to use this one on one of the kitchen benches.
It will keep the everyday drips and spills off my recently covered bench.

This one just screamed Fall!

I even found a couple of 'blingies' for a future project ☺

And even though I have been refraining from placing out any Fall Decor...
just trying to hold onto Summer as long as possible...
after getting the Fall Tablecloth I couldn't help myself.

I picked a few Sunflowers, placed them into vintage Ball Jars.
Dug out mini bales I picked up earlier in the year,
added a Witchs Hat votive holder and,
of course, a (Dollar Store) black crow.
