What is my Style?

I'm joining Courtney and Kimberly
for "Pinning".

This weeks theme: This is My Style

Jeans, jeans, jeans

They're about all I wear and have worn for more years than I care to count.
I got to the point where jeans and a T-shirt was my daily outfit.
Let's face it, with raising 4 kiddos, what you look like comes in last
and it gets to be a habit.
It's what I was comfortable in..who I was.
A rut if you will.

This could be me in my 20's

My life has changed drastically in the last year.
Going through a divorce after 37 yrs sure makes you stop
and think of who you are.

Now I'm way past my 20's, but still like my jeans.
But I would like to change from a 'thrown together' look to a more 'put together' look....
sans the hand me down t-shirts..

These out fits are so cute!

And one thing I want to get back is doing my nails on a regular basis.
I used to always do my own...but priorities changed.
Now nails have sure come along way since then.
Love this!

Maybe after I lose all this divorce stress weight I could even wear something like these.

So fun and carefree..
carefree, isn't that a wonderful word?

So I guess this post has turned out about what I would like my style to become,
not what it is.
It's a process and I will get there.

Unemployment Definition

Abbott and Costello -- the government hasn't changed....

COSTELLO: I want to talk about the unemployment rate in America.

ABBOTT: Good Subject. Terrible times. It's 9%.

COSTELLO: That many people are out of work?
ABBOTT: No, that's 16%.

COSTELLO: You just said 9%.
ABBOTT: 9% Unemployed.

COSTELLO: Right 9% out of work.
ABBOTT: No, that's 16%.

COSTELLO: Okay, so it's 16% unemployed.
ABBOTT: No, that's 9%...

COSTELLO: Wait a minute. Is it 9% or 16%?
ABBOTT: 9% are unemployed. 16% are out of work.

COSTELLO: IF you are out of work you are unemployed.
ABBOTT: No, you can't count the "Out of Work" as the unemployed. You have to look for work to be unemployed.

COSTELLO: BUT THEY ARE OUT OF WORK!
ABBOTT: No, you miss my point.

COSTELLO: What point?
ABBOTT: Someone who doesn't look for work, can't be counted with those who look for work. It wouldn't be fair.

COSTELLO: To whom?
ABBOTT: The unemployed.

COSTELLO: But they are ALL out of work.
ABBOTT: No, the unemployed are actively looking for work. Those who are out of work stopped looking. They gave up. And, if you give up, you are no longer in the ranks of the unemployed.

COSTELLO: So if you're off the unemployment roles, that would count as less unemployment?
ABBOTT: Unemployment would go down. Absolutely!

COSTELLO: The unemployment just goes down because you don't look for work?
ABBOTT: Absolutely it goes down.. That's how you get to 9%. Otherwise it would be 16%. You don't want to read about 16% unemployment do ya?

COSTELLO: That would be frightening.
ABBOTT: Absolutely.

COSTELLO: Wait, I got a question for you. That means they're two ways to bring down the unemployment number?
ABBOTT: Two ways is correct.

COSTELLO: Unemployment can go down if someone gets a job?
ABBOTT: Correct.

OSTELLO: And unemployment can also go down if you stop looking for a job?
ABBOTT: Bingo.

COSTELLO: So there are two ways to bring unemployment down, and the easier of the two is to just stop looking for work.
ABBOTT: Now you're thinking like an economist.

COSTELLO: I don't even know what the hell I just said!

And now you know why Obama's unemployment figures are improving!

What's New?

I've been working a a few things...
figuring out a way to use my old eyeglass lenses.

Here are a couple of necklaces I've made.

Norval the fish from Dr Seuss
I wanted the backs to look finished so
I covered them with sheet music and cut out words.
This one has 'Good fun'

A Mermaid with danglies one this one.
'Simple Beauty' on the back

With the unseasonably warm weather we've been having my mind turns to Spring,
and with that Nests :)

Here's one in a baby shoe.
Embellished with a muslin tie, soft feathers and vintage buttons.

Cranberry Sauce Apple Crisp

I made Cranberry Sauce for New Years.
My very first time making it from scratch, it was delish!

But, of course, I made too much.
I didn't have time to figure out what to do with it at that time
and didn't want to waste it,
so I threw it into the freezer.

The other day I came across it...
sometimes my freezer turns into a black hole!
Does yours do that too?

Since we love all kinds of Fruit Crisps,
I searched for one to use it up
and found Apple Crisp with Cranberry Sauce.

4 Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and sliced (I used what I had and didn't peel)

1 1/2 cups whole berry cranberry sauce
1 cup whole wheat pastry flour (I used regular flour)
1 cup rolled oats
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
2/3 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup butter, melted (I used margarine)

1.Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

2.Place apple slices in an 8 or 9 inch square baking dish. Spread the cranberry sauce over the apples. In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over the apples and cranberry sauce, covering completely.
3.Bake for 45 minutes in the preheated oven, or until apples can be easily pierced with a knife and topping is browned.

Gathered all my supplies and got to town.

MMM It was so yummy!!
Will have to remember this for next year.

Fertilizer Friday at Tootsie Time

XOXOXOXOXO

All the fruit trees are ready to burst or are in bloom in the orchards
and in my backyard.

Nectarine

Cherry Plum

Cherry

and while out counting I was able to catch a few photos
of some White Crowned Sparrows visiting my yard.

Now these are so cute.
I've never seen anything like them before.

My kiddos surprised me with them.

Seed balls made to look like a box of candy!
They're all different types of herbs.

Too cute!
Anxious to get them planted,
but even though we are having Springtime weather,
we are not into frost free mornings yet.
So I will have to wait a bit.

A Victorian Lady's Scrapbook Images

Scrapbooking is not a new phenomenon.
Women of the nineteenth century created scrapbooks for a variety of reasons: as a craft project, as a way to preserve letters or photos, and as a way to document a family history or special event.
Here are a few reproductions to enjoy and use.
