A Few of My Favorite Things

What is is about trunks & suitcases?
Or maybe it's just these?
These were used by my Mother during World War II,
when she followed my Father to Rhode Island.
I love these....
maybe because they were used during a crucial time of our history,
or maybe just because they belonged to my Mother,
or maybe because they have held up so well in spite of all their miles,
or maybe because they are a great for storage...
maybe for all of these reasons =)
As a young boy my Father sat around this this radio.
Listening to world events and programs that would help to mold him into the man he was to become.
I am fortunate enough to have some of the postcards that came through my families hands through the years. I wanted a way to display some of my favorites.
I also have a lot of vintage lace that my Grandmother made.
I decided to incorporate them into a framed collage that now sits on my coffee table to remind us of simpler times.
The picture postcard in the center is of the town I currently live in during the early 1900's.
This piano was brought by my husbands family from Missouri to California in the early 1900's. It had quite a journey in a covered wagon. The painting displayed is by Joan Waff, framed in a vintage cabinet door. This painting represents my roots. It is my Grandparents farm in the Livermore Hills. "The Ranch" my Grandfather built with his bare hands. Not one but two houses. "The Old House" where they lived until the new much larger house was finished. The barn where they milked hundreds of cattle every day. "The Ranch" where my Aunts & Uncle lived for many years after his passing. 200 acres of prime farmland that they worked everyday during the course of their lives. This painting is by F.O. Marino, 1988. I hold all these close to my heart as a reminder of where I came from.

Spring Is Just Around The Corner!!

We had nice weather earlier this morning, sprinkling on & off now.
Anyway, I went out earlier & looked around the garden. Weeds everywhere!
So for a few hours I pulled & pulled. It was a pleasure actually because I was down at the plants level & could enjoy their blooms up close =)
I snapped a few photos to share with all of you, especially those of you who are in colder climates...Spring Is On It's Way!
Hope these bring a smile to your face and a warmth in your heart.
Enjoy your day!

Entertainment Center Vignette

Now entertainment center & vignette is a contradiction in terms...
at least as far as I'm concerned ;)
But living with children you need to compromise for practicality's sake.
Maybe some day I'll be able to decorate more to my liking. Maybe not.
Anyway, just wanted to share a few of my ideas.
Along the top I've placed a few of my favorite things. The large basket on the bottom corrals a game system & games.
The vintage picnic basket holds some my of vintage textiles, with one peeking over the side. The mason jar hold vintage hankies & jewelry, a dust free way to display. The old trunk on the bottom hides another game system & games. This old clock belonged to my Grandmother. I found the metal "vases" with basket "covers" while clearing out the farm. They are on there tight! Woven directly on, I imagine. This painting was painted by a friend while we were all stationed in Alaska. A pretty handpainted basket holds yet another game system & games under my favorite table, a gift from my Daughter.
Well, there you have it.
